Terms of Service

In plain English. The lawyer version is below the plain version. Both are binding.

The plain version

  • Use ByGPT to humanize your own writing. Don't use it to harass, defraud, or break your school's policy.
  • Free tier: 200 words/day, no signup, forever. We can rate-limit you if you abuse it.
  • Pro and Founders: pay through Stripe. Cancel any time. Pro is monthly. Founders is one-time.
  • Refunds: 7 days, no questions asked. Just email.
  • We don't guarantee any particular bypass rate against any specific detector. Detectors update; bypass rates change. We test weekly and publish the data.
  • We don't store your text. We can't restore it if you lose it. Save your own copies.
  • We can suspend your account for abuse. We'll email first when we can.
  • We can change these terms. Substantive changes get 30 days notice.

1. Acceptance of these terms

By using ByGPT.org (the "Service"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service. These terms are between you and Outline Technologies, the parent company of ByGPT.

2. Acceptable use

You may use ByGPT to humanize text you've drafted yourself or have permission to use. You may not use ByGPT to:

  • Generate or distribute content that violates someone's intellectual property
  • Generate content for academic or professional submission where AI use is explicitly forbidden by your institution or employer (we provide the tool; whether you can use it for a specific submission is your responsibility)
  • Harass, defame, or defraud anyone
  • Generate child sexual abuse material, terrorism content, or other illegal content (our model providers will block this anyway)
  • Reverse-engineer or attempt to extract our model weights
  • Run scraping, automated load tests, or denial-of-service attacks against our infrastructure
  • Resell ByGPT access without our written permission

3. Account responsibilities (Pro and Founders only)

You're responsible for keeping your password secure. We're not liable for losses caused by you sharing your account credentials. If you suspect unauthorized access, email us immediately at [email protected].

4. Pricing and refunds

Free tier: 200 words per 24-hour rolling window per client identifier. No charge. We can rate-limit clients beyond this if we detect abuse patterns.

Pro tier: $10/month, billed monthly via Stripe. 50,000 words per month. Cancel any time from your account dashboard; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

Founders tier: $199 one-time payment via Stripe. Lifetime access. Capped at 100 lifetime seats; once 100 seats are sold, the tier closes permanently.

Refunds: 7 days from purchase, no questions asked. Email [email protected] with your order ID. Refunds are processed within 5 business days through Stripe; banks may take 3-10 additional days to credit your card.

Founders refund: If we ever shut ByGPT down (we don't plan to), Founders members receive 90 days notice and a pro-rated refund based on time elapsed since purchase, calculated against a 5-year reference period.

5. No guarantees on bypass rate

We publish our weekly-tested bypass rates against the major AI detectors. Those rates are aggregated across our 500-sample test set. Your individual results may vary. Detectors update their models every 4-12 weeks; bypass rates fluctuate. We don't guarantee that any specific submission of yours will pass any specific detector. We do guarantee that we'll publish accuracy dips when they happen and patch the engine within 1-7 days.

6. Your responsibility for content

You are responsible for everything you submit through ByGPT and everything you do with the output. We don't review your content. We don't endorse your use. If your school, employer, or jurisdiction has a policy about AI-assisted writing, you're responsible for following it. ByGPT being available doesn't mean its use is permissible in your specific context.

7. Limitation of liability

ByGPT is provided "as is". We're not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to: academic discipline, employment consequences, or any third-party action taken against you based on your use of the tool. Our total liability to you for any claim is capped at the amount you paid us in the prior 12 months.

8. Termination

We can suspend or terminate your access for violation of these terms. We'll typically email first to let you fix the issue. For severe violations (illegal content, denial-of-service attacks), we may terminate immediately. You can terminate your account any time from your dashboard or by emailing us.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction Outline Technologies is registered in. Disputes go through informal email resolution first; if unresolved within 30 days, they proceed to binding arbitration.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. Substantive changes get 30 days notice via email (Pro/Founders) or site banner (free tier). The "last updated" date reflects every revision.
